Teaching Subtraction Without Borrowing Within 10000

Subtraction is a process of finding the difference between two numbers.     In teaching subtracting one number from another, arrange the numbers according to the place values and carry out the operation column by column from right to left.  When two or more numbers are to be subtracted successively, it must be carried out in steps subtracting two numbers at a time. There are few steps needed to teach the kids subtraction without borroing within 10000.  1.      First shows how to subtract using a place value chart. The following number sentence is given: 5749 − 2043 = ? 2.   Write the number sentence in the place value chart.

3.      For subtraction without regrouping, guide kids to apply their knowledge of basic subtraction facts to each place value beginning with the digits in the highest place value.

The complete  number sentence is as follows: 5749 − 2043 = 3706  Repeat 1 – 4 steps using other examples. Kids could be better understand the teaching of subtraction without borrowing within 10000 through practicing the worksheets in my following posts.
