Teaching 2 Digit Addition With Regrouping

Example: Add two numbers using vertical form: Step 1: Write the problem in two column place value: ones, tens. Step 2: Then add the ones column. 9 ones + 2 ones = 11 ones There cannot be more than 9 ones in the ones column. So. regroup the numbers become 1 tens 1 ones. Move the ten ones into the tens column, as picture above.   Step 3: Next, add the tens column. 1 tens + 7 tens + 1 tens. = 9 tens.
