Exponents is a logical progression of operations in math, by multiplying the same number repeatedly.

The definition of exponents in math given at the beginning of this section Rules Of Exponents means 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 or 1,000,000, which means that repeated multiplication just like rules of exponents here.

However, multiplication is an operation of adding the same number repeatedly which is slightly different from exponent of multiplying same number repeatedly.

Rules of exponents 1: To multiply numbers with the same base, add the exponents and keep the base the same.

Rules of exponents 2: When raising a power of a number to a power, multiply the exponents and keep the base the same.

Rules of exponents 3: When dividing two exponential numbers, subtract the powers.
