Proper Fractions
A fraction is a part of a whole.
If a strip of paper is divided into two equal parts, one part is named ‘one over three” and written as 1/3.
And if the same piece of paper is divided into six equal parts, then two parts are named ‘ two over six’ and written as 2/6.
Again if the same piece of paper is divided into 9 equal parts, then three parts are named ‘ three over nine’ and written as 3/9.
A fraction is a number that represents part of one whole. In any fractions, the number at the top is called the numerator, and the number at the bottom is called the denominator.
For example:
Whereby the denominator shows the total number of equal parts of a whole.
A proper fractions is a fraction which the numerator is less than the denominator.
