Place Value for Kids

Place value for kids used in the early childhood longitudinal study, this place value for kids involves skills need for demonstrating an understanding of place value in integers to the hundreds place.


 

Each digit in a number has a value.

The  position of each digits in a whole numbers has its value called placed value and the value of each digit is called digit value.

The value of a digit in a numbers is depended on its position in that numbers.

The place value of a 7 digit number are Ones (O), Tens (T), Hundreds (H), Thousands (Th), Ten Thousands (T th), Hundred Thousands (H th), Millions (M).

From the table above, it is clear for kids to know that the place value of digit 2 is hundred thousands and the digit value of 2 is 200 000 and etc.

The numbers can be partitioned according to their place values and digit values. This process is also known as extended notation or decomposition.

For example,

246 543 = 2 hundred thousands + 4 ten thousands + 6 thousands + 5 hundreds + 4 tens + 3 ones

 or

246 543 = 200 000 + 40 000 + 6000 + 500 + 40 + 3
