Multiplication of Proper Fractions
Consider this multiplication problem:
How much is one-half of one-half?
Using a fraction manipulative, we show one-half of a circle.

Example 1: What fractions is one half of three fourths?
By using a fractions manipulative, we show three fourths of a circle.

Since one half of one fourth is one eight, one half of three fourths is three eights, We may also find one half of three fourths by multiplying.

Example 2: See the example below.

Multiplication of Fractions of Mixed Numbers.
When you first read the fractions problems, you need to understand the question. See the example below.

Then, you have to change the mixed number to an improper fraction.

Here you have to remember that to do multiplication of fractions, you always have to multiply the numerators straight across.

Then do the denominators by multiplying the denominators straight across.

After that you have to apply the simplifying skills to simplify the answer.

Finally change the improper fraction to a mixed number.

Tips: When you multiply a positive mixed number by a fractions between 0 and 1 the products is less than the mixed number. See the example below.
