Multiplication of whole numbers is the mathematical operation of adding together multiple copies of the same number.
|
For example, the multiplication of whole numbers can be illustrated with this example….
5 + 5 + 5 = 15
This example above has 5 multiplied 3 times. Or, said another way, this is: 3 times 5.
This is often written as the short hand….
3 × 5 = 15

However teach multiplication can be through repeated addition, skip counting, counting arrays, finding unit areas of rectangles, Cartesian product, scaling… That’s too many to start, isn’t it? So just pick one, then one more, now you know how to teach multiplication facts.
First, have kids lay out 2 paper plates. Put three chips in each plate.

Let the kids know that there are 2 sets of 3 chips and this can be written as:
Have kids make a drawing to represent a given a number sentence, e.g.
Guide kids to complete number sentences for multiplication by asking, e.g. “How many all together in 5 sets of 3?
Guide the kids to try some worksheets to get them familiar with the math facts.
Remember math is one of the greatest ways to instill valuable goal-setting skills while ensuring academic success. Math provides the perfect opportunity for goal-setting lessons: its aims are realistic, obtainable, measurable and can be broken down into smaller goals or tasks that is why it is important to know how to teach math facts to kids.
