How To Help Your Child Success In Math
Have you ever wonder how some kids have excellent learning talent in math? I’m going to show you 6 principles to make your kid outperform others in math learning process. In the many theories of learning there are certain basic principles that not only are common to all but are wholly in accord with the practices of successful parents and teachers.
The principles which I will be listed and described here provide useful guidance to both parents and teachers to help their kids’ success in math.

1. Readiness to Learn
Basically, children develop at different rates together with their readiness to learn, which involves a level of development at which the child has the capacity to learn specific materials.
This variability in children development stage gives the children with variability in their readiness learning process.
|
As a result, the children learn at their own rate, with their own style and readiness to learn. However, if the child is lacked of readiness to learn, it may harms child‘s chances of fulfilling his or her potential. Therefore it is important for both parents and teachers to get the child ready for the lesson.
2. Learning is Stratified Process
Human learning process is based on stratified process. Most people learn math by thinking it as a bunch of recipes to solve the math problems. Actually mathematics is a combination of facts, concepts, and logical reasoning which is interrelated through stages by stages rather than on isolated facts.
For example, it is impossible to teach a child multiplication, if that child not yet learned to count, to add and subtract. He or she must master the counting skills before he will be able to learn the calculations. There must have a sequence in teaching math, whereby certain skills must mastering first before monitoring others.
3. Understanding
All evidence indicated that it is more beneficial to learn mathematics through understanding than memorization. This is particular important in the process of learning mathematics whereby mathematics are merely combination of concepts, facts and all those logical reasoning.
The kids learn better if they have to explore and discover why and how to perform one mathematics concepts and have participated in formulating those concepts. Once the kids understand that mathematics concept, they are able to use their knowledge flexibly, where they can combine the facts, procedure and conceptual understanding in problem solving.
Now you’re ready to really make a different in your kid, remember each child develop at different rate, and have different learning style. Therefore it is important for them to understand the structure of mathematics to ease the learning curve.
This demands persistent observation of each child math learning process and strive for improvement that promote effective learning. |
