How To Add Fractions With Common Denominators
(1) A fractions has a numerator and a denominator. The denominator is on the bottom. Let see the example below:

(2) First make sure that both denominators have the same value. Then add the numerators and keep the denominator the same.

(the above example needs simplify, but at the mean time we just ignored it)
Example 2:

Here we simplify the fractions when it is needed, whereby the fractions be reduced to the lowest terms. This means the numerator at the top and denominator at the bottom cannot be reduced anymore by the same number. Let see the example below:

Do you know that

How To Add Fractions With Unlike Denominators
(1) A common denominator must be found when adding fractions that have different denominators. This is the most important (and probably the hardest) step in adding or subtracting fractions. A common denominator can always be found by multiplying the denominators. See the example below:

(2) Identify the common multiplies of two fractions; in the example above 35 is the common multiplies of 7 and 5.
(3) Change the both fractions to the equivalent fractions with a denominator of 35, simply by multiplying 5 and 7 to both fractions respectively. Just like the example shown below.

At the end of multiplication we are able to get two fractions with same denominator by converting both fractions to equivalent fractions.
(4) Then we add both fractions up.

Do remember sometimes the product of the two denominators denominator will not be the lowest common denominator. However, when it needs to simplify, then we have to simplify it to lowest term.
