Arrangement of Numbers

Numbers can be arranged in ascending order or descending order.

“Ascending order” means the numbers are arranged in such a way that from the lowest value of numbers to the highest value of numbers.

For example; 2, 40, 652, 777, 8019, 90 999 and etc.

While “descending order” means that the numbers are arranged from the highest value of numbers to the lowest value of numbers.

For example, 1 000 000, 80, 000, 5000, 621, 27, 3 and etc.

Arrange the numbers below in ascending order.

235 210, 359 567, 123 987, 367 570, 331 559

Answer

Step 1: Put the numbers in place value chart.

Step 2: Always compare the value of the first digit of the numbers from the left to right.

Step 3: Compare the first digit of the numbers and the numbers with bigger number in their first digit from the left always has greater value.

Here we can identify that 359 567 and 367 570, 331 559 have greater value than the others; and 235 210 is greater than 123 987.

Step 4: Then we can compare these three numbers by looking at their 2nd digit from the left. Those with bigger numbers always have greater value.

Now we can conclude that these numbers can be arranged in the following way according to their value in numbers.
